5 Steps to Writing Effective Statement of Purpose

The Statement of Purpose (SOP) has remarkable impact on your admission to study overseas in nation such as Australia, US, UK, Canada and more. As it is the most demanding part of the application process, it has the capacity to make or break you.  Therefore, it is advised to seek help of our experienced study abroad consultants to make your SOP is powerful and attractive. Our group of qualified professionals has counseled and placed thousands of students in international universities and colleges including IVY Leagues in 2016.

There are some specific characters to a perfect Statement of Purpose that can confirm your admission so that you can study overseas in Australia, UK, US or any other country in the universities abroad.  The purpose of SOP is to help the committee get a comprehensive understanding of you as an individual.  It should not be a copy of someone else’s SOP (Avoid Plagiarism). It helps you stand out amongst the crowd and leave an impression.  So, take your time and plan how you wish your Statement of Purpose to sound.

Below are some of the frequently asked questions that must be answered in your statement of purpose:

·       What you want to study at graduate school?
·       Why you want to study only this degree?
·       Why do you want to study at this particular college? What do you like in us?
·       Why did you choose to study in this particular country? What do you like about it?
·       How much and what kind of experience you have in your field?
·       Is your experience related to you choice of degree?
·       If you are already experienced, what additional skills are you planning to gain from the degree?
·       What you plan to do with your degree after graduation?
·       Would you choose to end up with a job or take up research?
·       What are your expectations from both the graduate program, and the university?
·       Would you like to study or do research under any particular professor? If yes, why only them?
·       How can you contribute to our university and our program? What specific skills do you bring to the table?
·       Apart from work and education, what are your hobbies, interests, and habits? What are you like, as a person?
·       What do you understand about our student community and culture? Why do you think you will fit in?
·       What is that one unique aspect/characteristic about you that we should know? Why does it matter to us or to the fellow students of your class?
Now that you have a good understanding of  points to be included in your Statement of Purpose, here are a few tips to bear in mind while writing:

1. Share your story
2. Be Specific
3. Avoid using same SOP for all Universities
4. Be cautious of your tone
5. Review, Review and Review

Make It Easy

Life is worth living, if everything is well-planned and prepared. That’s how we would want our lives to be, but “life is full of surprises” as they say. Your plan of studying overseas in Australia, USA, UK or Canada may have some surprises when you step into the paradise but most of them can be handled easily if you know some facts and quick tips to prepare yourself to make your stay abroad all the more interesting and happy, as it’s supposed to be.
Before crafting a Statement of Purpose, you should be clear about three things: What you want, why you want it and why you can benefit from that particular program that you wish to study. Your SOP is a projection of you.  As your study abroad admission consultants, we believe it is necessary to keep certain points in mind before you start writing.
Choose Interest over Popularity: Pay attention to the program you choose by making sure that it is of your interest instead of chasing for popular university or college. Your stay could really become difficult for you if you do not like the college, course, people, etc.
Be your cultural best: It is very important to get complete information about the country that you are going to. Get hands on information to get some true and genuine facts about the particular country.
Test yourself: You may be required to take an English proficiency test such as IELTS or TOEFL. Before applying, check with your college about which test is applicable to the university / college you want to study in. It is recommended to work on your English skills 6 months prior to the examination.
Comfort counts: You must understand that not all colleges can provide a comfortable environment for foreign students, which makes studying there all the more difficult. So, conduct your research about this important aspect before you apply.

We have a team of study abroad consultants who believe the importance of taking all the necessary steps to prepare well in. They will help you collect details of the native students studying in the country and get involved in groups made by students of your country studying in a foreign country and interact with them as much as you can to learn from their unique experiences.
